We did it! On June 21, we walked 13.1 miles in our 2nd Team in Training event, the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska. Our goal was to raise $8400.00, and even though the "stats" page on the site doesn't reflect it, we met and surpassed our goal.
We thank all of you for your donations, support and encouragement. It was a great feeling crossing the finish line and knowing that by raising those funds, we helped make a difference in the lives of anyone living with a blood cancer. Of the almost 4000 participants at the marathon, approximately 2000 were with Team in Training. We met great people, all there to make an impact, and we shared a bonding, emotional experience.
Stats to keep in mind...
* An estimated 106,700 people in the United States will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2003.
* Every nine minutes, another child or adult is expected to die from leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
* Leukemia and lymphoma are the leading fatal cancers in young men under age 39.
Allison's next endeavor is the Disney Marathon in January 2004.
